Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the incident made him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
